Summertime Dental Tips

Summer is finally here! Summertime in Lindale, TX is an amazing time of year. The weather is warm, school is out, and the activities to participate in are endless.

However, the summertime also tends to mean an increase in sweets that may enter our mouths. In the summer we may indulge in an ice cream cone or popsicle or two, some sweet drinks to cool off, or more than a few sugary snacks.

So what should you do to keep your teeth looking their best despite the extra sweets and snacks during the summertime? We have some great dental tips to help you keep your teeth in tip-top shape!

Great Summer Dental Tips

When we are on the go during the summer, we tend to put the idea of taking care of our teeth in the back of our minds. It is easy to do, there are a million other things on our minds. But some great simple tips can help you take care of your teeth while balancing a busy summer schedule at the same time.

Drink Water

It may be tempting to pick up those sugary drinks this summer that may be offered at barbeques and other parties and events this summer but try to choose water. Water keeps bad bacteria from building up on your teeth and washes food out from between them.

Use a straw

If you do choose to drink sugary drinks, use a straw to limit the time that they have in contact with your teeth.

Stay on routine

It may be hard to stay on a dental routine with a busy summer schedule, carting kids here and there, but try to stick to your twice-a-day brushing schedule. This, paired with flossing once a day will keep your teeth looking great. It will keep food particles out of your teeth.

Try healthy snacks

It is tempting when hopping from summer pool parties to barbeques to overindulge in sweet treats this summer. Instead, try snacking on healthier options like fresh fruits and vegetables. Snacking on crunchy veggies stimulates the flow of saliva, which helps to scrub away food particles and bacteria.

Don’t Skip Your Summer Teeth Cleaning

We recommend visiting your dentist every six months for your dental checkup. The summer arriving is no reason to skip your semi-annual visit. Having your teeth cleaned is one way to keep your teeth looking their best this summer.

We know that you are doing your best throughout the year to keep your teeth clean, but brushing and flossing alone can not keep plaque buildup away. When you come into your local Lindale dentist for your teeth cleaning, we will remove leftover plaque and tartar that you can’t get rid of on your own.

In addition to your regular dental checkups, we look for any signs of dental health issues that could impact your health. Our patient’s health is always our top priority. During our dental  examinations we usually include:

  • Gum disease screening
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Visual tooth decay evaluation
  • Gum pocket measurement and tracking
  • X-ray examination to detect: tooth decay, cysts, tumors, problems below the gums and other hidden issues
